This black pottery casserole is hand made in Columbia, by families in a small village on the banks of the Magdalena River in Central Columbia. Its origins can be traced back at least 700 years. Every item is dried in the sun and then polished with hand selected pebbles. Dries spices help in the drying process, the items are baked in a high temperature and then smoked with these spices which gives them their well known pitch black colour.
The pieces heat very evenly and retain heat for a long period. They can be used in the oven, microwave, bbq or on a gas or electric stovetop. Use them to make your favorite casserole dish, soup or stue.
*Note: before using the casserole for the first time, it's important to seal it. You can do this very easily, by putting some water in the casserole and placing it in the oven for 45 minutes on 150°C.
